Autism awareness month is great, but just because April is over, it doesn’t mean we have to turn off that blue light. Here are five ways you can extend autism awareness and acceptance beyond April in Toronto.
MAY 13th – Autism in Love Screening:

JUNE 16th – LOL for Autism

WHERE? CBC Glenn Gould Studio – 250 Front Street West, Toronto
DETAILS: Presented by Geneva Centre for Autism, and hosted by Evan Carter: Michael McCreary and Nile Seguin will perform in a live comedy show with all proceeds going to support programs for children, youth, and adults with autism.

Micheal McCreary, who goes by AspieComic on the web, is a stand-up comedian who has Asperger’s. You can check him out on Youtube, or in on his website. Here’s a video collaboration he did recently with Autism Ontario: (spoiler: It’s awesome.)
ANYTIME – Travels With My Brother
“This short, live action/animated documentary (using computer 2-D cut-out elements) explores the relationship between Vas – a high-functioning autistic man – and his older sister Christine, who will one day be his official guardian, as they travel around their hometown of Toronto, Canada. Through a series of interconnected conversations on love, family, humour, art, desire and destiny, the film unearths Vas’ unique perception of the world and how he copes with the “realities” within and outside of him. At the heart of the story is a sister’s attempt to crack the enigma that is her brother as she forges a way for their shared future.”(source)
