Friendship

You’ve likely seen this widely viewed, poignant image taken on August 18, 2011 at the funeral of Petty Officer Jon Tumilson, who was killed [along with 29 other Americans] in the line of duty when his helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan early this month.

His beloved dog, Hawkeye, lay in front of his casket throughout the entire funeral, showing that even death couldn’t break the bond of their friendship.

This heart wrenching display of devotion got me thinking about what it means to be a friend.

A pet gives their human family unconditional love – no judgment, no “constructive criticism”, just love, all the time.

As it is our dream at Different Is Cool to see the good in everyone, and break free of judgement, I think we can all learn from Hawkeye and our animal companions – let’s just love one another. Always.
