Please Help Us Help Others This Holiday Season!

by

“Like” Different Is Cool on Facebook and help us feed the less fortunate this Christmas!

As this is the season of giving, we, a generous & spirited community of misfits, square pegs and awesome fringe-dwellers, are going to give to those who are less fortunate – here’s the plan:

For every Facebook “Like” that Different is Cool receives from now until the end of 2011, we will donate a complete, hot Christmas meal, on your behalf, to the incredible Fred Victor Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Since 1886, when it was known as The Fred Victor Mission, the good people at Fred Victor have been providing social services that foster long-lasting and positive change in the lives of homeless and low income people living all across Toronto. Approximately 1,000 people a day walk through the many doors of Fred Victor, seeking shelter, a decent meal or simply assistance with any number of life’s difficulties.

I was introduced to the Fred Victor as a child, my parents would take my sister and I to the Fred Victor Centre on weekend afternoons and evenings. My parents would entertain by singing and playing guitar and we would help serve meals and spend time with the people who had come for a hot dinner and some company.

I met many a beautiful person there, whose life fortunes had left them alone and on the streets and I understood, from hearing their stories that anyone could be in their position in an instant – the loss of a job or the loss of a loved one could lead to depression, perhaps substance abuse and eventually, homelessness. These are circumstances that could happen to any of us, at any time. As my father always said “There but for the Grace of God, go I.”

Here’s how one man’s life has been positively impacted by the Fred Victor:

Sonny’s Story

Having lived on the streets, on and off, since 1977, I am now someone who is ready to take care of others. After volunteering at Fred Victor, I’m now working at St. Michael’s hospital, advocating on behalf of homeless people. My job means I can help alleviate some of the pressure in the hospital emergency waiting room.

As Sonny says “everyone is different and everyone simply wants to be treated like a human being.”

=============================

We are trying to increase the outreach of Different Is Cool and The Fred Victor, while sharing our great good fortune with others – so please Like us and let’s give someone who is hungry and alone a warm meal and some Christmas fellowship this holiday season.

Our donation benefits the Fred Victor’s annual Turkey Drive – because they need our help!  They have not reached their annual goal and for every Like Different Is Cool receives on Facebook, we give a meal, up to $2000.00.  That’s a complete Christmas dinner & celebration for 400 homeless people!

We can do it, together.  Tell your Facebook friends, tweet it, G+ it, spread it…

That’s it.  If you believe that What Makes You Different, Makes You Cool, then simply Click Here, and you will have spread some Christmas cheer and blessings.

And if you’d like to give more to help the Fred Victor, please Donate Here.  The Fred Victor is always looking for volunteers, if you live in the Toronto area and would like to help, please click here.

Thank You.  And May You and Yours Have a Very Happy & Blessed Christmas.
