This topic has been on my mind a great deal lately. Blind acceptance of ideology creates division among people that is almost impossible to overcome, because reason can not be used to sway blind acceptance. Blind acceptance is unreasonable.
The worldwide news media reports daily on the global conflicts based on ideology, frequently religious ideology – therefore, poor old God gets dragged into these conflicts more often than not. [Along with, but not limited to: Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Mohammed and Jehovah].
Perhaps humankind’s spiritual leaders would just like to be left out of it?
A LETTER FROM GOD
[Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip]
Acclaimed British hip hop duo Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip have been making intelligent, thought-provoking musical commentary since 2008 and two of their tracks “A Letter From God” and “Thou Shalt Always Kill” are especially relevant in these times…they promote individuality, thinking for one’s self and renounce hagiography. They are pretty much the antithesis of blind acceptance.
In a 2010 interview with Beatdom, the spoken word artist David Meads was asked why he chose the pseudonym Scroobius Pip [a deliberate misspelling of the Edward Lear poem The Scroobious Pip]. His answer:
“I loved the story. It’s about a creature that doesn’t know what it is …By the end [of the poem] he realises that he is simply The Scroobious Pip. He doesn’t fit into any one category and can just be his own creature.”[2]
It’s a lovely thought – accepting our existence, removing the categorizing and judging of ourselves and one another – particularly, on the basis of religious ideology.
